Another Fantastic Barn

This is my very favorite barn of all. This barn is located east of Myrtle Point on Sitkum Lane and known by locals as the Long Barn. Although it was originally part of the Stemmler Homestead, Martin Long, a barn builder himself purchased the farm later and was responsible for much of the repair and upkeep. Built as a dairy, the 80 year old barn is currently owned by Bob and Ann Sproul.
I just love this barn. The wood is so beautiful and the design is wonderful!

A CHEROKEE LEGEND

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youths rite of passage?

His father takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone.
He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold until the rays of the morning sun shine through it. He cannot cry out for help to anyone.

Once he survives the night, he is a man. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience because each lad must come into manhood on his own.

The boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises. Wild beasts must surely be all around him. Maybe even some human might do him harm.

The wind blew the grass and earth and shook his stump, but he sat stoically, never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could become a man!

Finally, after a horrific night the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he discovered his father sitting on the stump next to him.

He had been at watch the entire night, protecting his son from harm.

We too are never alone. Even when we don't know it, God is watching over us, sitting on the stump beside us.

When trouble come, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

Moral of the story:
Just because you can't see God, doesn't mean He is not there!

"For we walk by faith, not by sight."

Brings back memories

This barn brings back so many good memories of my childhood.

After my Father died from a heart attach at age 34, my Mother moved with me and my younger brother in to the upstairs apartment of my Aunt Maxine's house. It was out in the country on a farm where my Uncle grew hundreds of acres of hay and milked dairy cows.

The cows were milked early morning and again in the evening. My cousin Jim would squirt milk on me when he was milking. This was a dairy farm and most cows were milked by machine. There is a process but eventually ended up in a big milk can that was picked up by the local dairy each morning.

I can still hear the sound of the milk machines...swish...swish...swish. There were cats and kittens all over the farm to keep the mice population in control. They were so cute licking up the fresh milk.

My Aunt would make butter and skim off the cream before she poured us a fresh glass of milk.

This barn is real similar to the one on my Aunt and Uncle's farm. The one I grew up with.

After I married and moved away the farm burned to the ground. The two story farm house where we lived in the upstairs apartment, all the sheds and yes the barn. There was nothing left.

Yep, this barn brings back memories of my childhood. Good Memories
Thanks for coming with me down memory lane for a minute or two.

This barn is owned by Carl and Phillis Ross who live on a century farm in the Hauser area.
This barn was built in 1925 after the original one burned.
Carl's Swedish Grandfather bought the farm after becoming a citizen in 1886. The dairy supplied milk to the Bay City Creamery in Lakeside, Oregon.

Similar stories huh?

Beauty right in my own back yard

I might complain about the massive amounts of rain here in Oregon but when we finally have a nice day with sunshine and blue skies I take a step back and look at the beauty our weather actually makes possible.

These are my rhododendron and azalea bushes this year. Last year the rain ruined them and they were not so pretty but just look at the vivid colors of the roddies and the healthy blooms on the azalea.
And everything is soooo green!

Our pine trees have grown at least 5 feet since we moved here 5 years ago.
What!? We have been here 5 years! Where does the time go?

So have our boys

Today our Etsy team got together at one of the members house for a really nice lunch. Eve was such a wonderful hostess. She had us all draw a number when we got there and the prize was.....

Bottled Air. She is so funny. My number was drawn so I got the bottled air.

I had been working on a page for a calendar that will be published at the end of this year for 2012 but I am going to have to make some serious changes due to some of the images here belong to others and I would have to get permission to use them commercially. That will take forever and I was advised not to use them for the calendar since I need to have my art completed and submitted by the end of August so this will be my latest collage. Back to square one.

I have a model in mind for my art (my granddaughter) for the month of June on the calendar and I just happen to have a wonderful friend Brenda over at SALZANOS who is willing to draw all the fairies I need for my calendar.
Here is one of her sketches. Yeah....she is pretty amazing.
Love your Brenda

Okay I have talked your head off so I will go now before you get bored.

Creative Juices are Flowing

I finally got some creative juices. I have had none for over two weeks. I belong to several ATC Swap groups and one of them is ATC's For All. I hadn't posted any mixed media atc's for ages so I put my juices to work and made these and posted them today.

Polk a Dot

Time on my Hands

Shooo!

A Hat made for a Prince's Wedding

Glamour
Elegance

Beauty Contest

I thought that if I posted them here on my blog it might inspire some of you to join MY ATC Swap here on Treasure Barn.
The theme is Hats and the deadline to join is the 15th.

Yeah, it did feel good to get out the glue and pencils and create mixed media instead of digital for a change!
Now I am working on a digital collage of a calendar page that will be published through Digital Whisper. I got the month of June!

I created this collage in 2010 and submitted it to the Digital Whisper network and it was published in the Digital Whisper Book in 2010.

I also have some new tins in mind and will be working on them over the weekend.

A Pleasent Surprise

One of the sites that I belong to is Blissful ATC's and each month we have a theme and are assigned a partner much like I try to do here on my blog. This month the theme was "At the Movies". My partner was Sonya Nelson and this is what she created for me.

It came with this beautiful handmade card. I really love this !

Movies with Elizabeth Taylor.

And Mama Mia! This was a bit blurry so it copied that way but I love the embellishments on this one.

Thanks Sonya
