HAIR JEWELRY & HAIR POST CARDS ?

I found this interesting and unusual article and wanted to share it with you.

I love all things Victorian but had never heard of Hair Post Cards. However my Grandmother had a wreath framed and enclosed in glass made of horse hair.

In the late 1800's and early 1900's, postcards and valentines were often sent with human hair attached. The sentimental sender would glue locks of their hair onto specially made postcards, (a picture of a beautiful woman) and send it to someone as a keepsake.

Hi Patti! Wow, hair postcards - I would never do that - I need every little strand of hair that I have! Cool idea though. Maybe I can steal some hair from my daughter and recreate one of these! Haha! Hope you are doing well! Hugz- Norma

isn't this amazing :) imagine taking our hair and creating some art with it - lol...those crazy victorians...I also love anything victorian and especially love the 1920's era. The postcards are really cool, they did a good job making the ladies look real. Maybe I could save some fur from my little poodle and use it for hairpiece on one of my ATC cards - hehe.
Take care of yourself dear friend -

First of all I need to apoligize...I have been stopping by and reading your post just havent left comments and I am sorry..what a lovely tribute to your mother, she does have a wonderful daughter, and like I told one of my other blogger friends "It's OK to miss them, it means they are still in our hearts and we will always miss our love one's" and those post cards are just too neat!! I remember when I'd write little notes to my mom, I'd use her perfume and spray the paper, remember scented stationary? Thank you for sharing such neat things, your great!
Hugs

HI- just blog surfing and stopped in to read about the hair postcards. I thought maybe it was a new trend in kids hair lol, there is always something new to buy. Especially with 2 girls. The cards are interesting and pretty, but I must admit the idea seems creepy.

Patti my grandmother had a picture made out of hair framed on her bedroom wall. It was woven into roses and other flowers.
These postcards are so wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

Love the jewelry and post cards- and how appropriate, as I chopped off some hair today(getting too long again).

Decided the shorter 4-5 inches would make a few nice little brushes, if I could find the right jewelry clasp- then I could cover it and use it for some art brush ! The longer piece from my extended bangs will go to 'locks of love'. Anywho- interesting post !:) Lydia xo

Hi Patti,
One of my students whom I taught dolls to, whom was a famous Aria/opera singer, she had a picture in kitchen that was her mothers and it was approx. 14"x12"made of all curls and formed hair.
It sort of gave me the creeps.. but I suppose if they saw one of my dolls or crazy collages, they would say the same.. !
Hugs, Darlene
